Makers Turn Innovators for ASD

Makers Turn Innovators for ASD

The power of networking in the Creative Underground....

Linking with a local innovator, we recently took on a job to design, manufacture and test a fishing lure CNC Laser etching jig. This product helps a local company batch etch their North Queensland made product, addressing labelling requirements. This has resulted in speeding up the total manufacturing process, improving quality, while reducing the labour cost of doing them individually.

Our design enables scalability, within 3 hours another section can be added,  the time it takes to 3D print and glue on.

What did we learn on this job?

-We needed to develop a process flow for designing these kind of jigs for objects that don't come with a CAD model, which worked out great.

-Slight out of centre cylinder, can introduce wobly text so we will extended and weight appropriately.

-Using a pen on paper sketch to capture our design ingredients in a recipe style format as part of the initial Design Thinking process, has resulted in prototype #1 success, saving time and money for you the customer.

Dear local businesses.

We are looking to partner with YOU, our local Townsville business community, to bring affordable product design services while supporting those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The example skills used above are taught within our business innovation workshop. Please reach out if you would like to learn more about how our services benefit both your organisation and those with ASD.

Note. Urban Maker, are a North Queensland, product innovation social enterprise.
