So it's been a great ride so far, on this super awesome journey of discovery around the Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths (STEAM) needs of our Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) community over the last year.
The so what?
It's reinforced the importance of linking Social Enterprises to local government needs. In our case, focusing on linking our community benefit, that is, providing free STEAM experiences with activating local community MakerSpaces through the development of, and ongoing support to a community run club we have named STEAMLabs.
Our Urban Maker Social Enterprise model is quite simple. We generate Intellectual Property (IP) through designing non-complex, easy to locally manufacture physical product, while along the way creating:
1. Revenue
2. Employment opportunities
3. A community STEAM Club with a secured funding stream
This all contributes to extending local government STEAM opportunities within our communities, increasing return on investment for local council run facilities.
The benefits touch key state and federal government community, employment and manufacturing needs and include, but are not limited to:
1. Social inclusion
2. Disability employment opportunities (and skills generation)
3. Manufacturing and STEM skills
4. Manufacturing goods experience
Our business design is inclusive, creative, sustainable and impactful.
