About
Currently navigating the world of raising a young son with ASD, ADHD and a learning disability. We identified an issue where traditional schooling can only afford very little extra time towards our child’s learning of Science, Technology, Engineering (Arts) and Maths (STE(a)M) education. Considering the learning disability our child has and the continued low scoring against both learning curriculum and NAPLAN, we decided to start our own early intervention program focused on real-world STE(a)M skills. This is where our #InnovationforASD initiative was born, and which aims to bridge the gap in technical skills for those who like to explore this alternative way of learning, by doing and in a hands-on, project linked approach. A Veteran founded social enterprise, Urban Maker helps people learn new, or continue to develop their self-taught STE(a)M skills in a psychologically/sensory safe and mentor supported learning environment. Through this initiative, Urban Maker aims to create a more inclusive future for those with ASD by providing opportunities to learn STE(a)M skills including problem solving, digital design, 3D printing, CNC Laser and other software and hardware platforms.
